Worcester Would Get New Amtrak Service Under Proposal
Amtrak wants to add a new route by 2035 connecting Manchester, N.H., to Boston, Worcester and Albany.
WORCESTER, MA — Your dream of taking an Amtrak ride from Worcester or Springfield to New Hampshire's largest city is within reach.
Amtrak on Wednesday released its "Connects US" plan, which envisions more than 30 new train routes across the nation, including one linking Manchester, N.H., with Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Albany, N.Y. There is no train service between New Hampshire's Manchester-Concord megalopolis and Massachusetts right now.
The rail corridor between Boston and Albany is already served by Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited service, which terminates in Chicago. At the same time, MassDOT recently finalized a vision for high-speed commuter rail service between Boston, Worcester and western Massachusetts.

Amtrak's new plan — which likely wouldn't be complete until 2035, if it gets funding — comes as President Joe Biden is proposing a $2.2 trillion infrastructure plan. Biden's plan includes $80 billion for Amtrak.
