Auburn Man Charged With Starving Dog To Death In His Basement

Officials found fur and bones in the basement of Eric Hannon's home.

AUBURN, MA—Board of Health officials who went to a man's home in Auburn found a dead dog in the basement, according to reports.

Eric J. Hannon, 21, has been charged with one count of animal cruelty after being arrested over the weekend, reports MassLive Worcester.

Officers reported finding a dog's remains in the basement, tied to a column with a short rope and pinch collar. Hannon told officials that the dog, named Athena, had been left in the home when he went to visit his girlfriend, and he returned to find the dog dead after a flood. But testing of the dog's bone showed signs of starvation.
