Benefit Basketball With Local Barbers To Help Hurricane Victims In Puerto Rico
Proceeds from this Worcester basketball game will go toward helping victims of the storm in Puerto Rico.

WORCESTER, MA—An organization called the Brotherhood is sponsoring a benefit basketball tournament for Amor Para Puerto Rico to help victims hit by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
The tournament takes place at St. Bernard Church, 236 Lincoln St, Worcester, on Oct. 15 from 12:30-8 p.m.
Twelve teams play in the tournament, those teams made up of local and Latino-owned barbershops, and spearheaded by Michelangelo’s Barbershop at 138 Green St.

To kick it off, a three-point shoot-out is held with local youths. Each shot that is made earns a donation toward Amor Para Puerto Rico based on sponsorships from people in the community.
The Brotherhood is a grassroots Worcester based collective of men who use the power of social
networking, mobilizing, and organizing to highlight and support men of color in the City of Worcester, according to an announcement from the group.

Amor Para Puerto Rico is a community action working group brought together by the residents of the
City of Worcester to bring forth relief efforts to those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
On Sept. 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated the people of Puerto Rico, leaving left a path of destruction
that affected all of the island’s 3.5 million residents, many of whom are now left without basic necessities.
"We are coming together as a community to help alleviate the devastation and help rebuild and uplift our
sister island," said an announcement from The Brotherhood.
