Bear In Auburn Found, To Be Relocated: UPDATE
A black bear was roaming a neighborhood in Auburn. While there may be others, this young guy was found and tranquilized.
AUBURN, MA—While you may feel compelled to offer this large, cute animal a pot of honey or a donut, just don't. Numerous sightings of a black bear in and around an Auburn neighborhood have been reported, police announced on Thursday.
This young male bear was found around 1 p.m. on Thursday and tranquilized by the Environmental Police. He is being treated and cooled and then relocated.
This black bear had been spotted around the area of Bryn Mawr Ave. and Swanson Road. As early as Thursday morning, the bear was spotted near the Bryn Mawr School.

Schools were advised to keep children in at recess time and we have sought the assistance of the Massachusetts Environmental Police to help with addressing this issue, said Auburn police.
Police shared the following guidelines from the mass.gov website on how to handle any bear encounters:

Whenever possible, do not approach the bear.
In general, when you encounter a black bear you should:
- Remain calm. DON'T run from a bear. DON'T climb trees to try to escape from a bear
- Ensure the bear has an escape route.
- Back away when possible.
- If attacked, immediately fight back.
- Don't feed bears.
