MA Child Injured By Tree Toppled In High Winds

Wind gusts topped 40 mph in parts of Massachusetts on Friday, according to forecasters.

TOWNSEND, MA — A 1-year-old in a north-central Massachusetts town was injured by a falling tree Friday night during a period of high winds across the state.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Friday at a home along New Fitchburg Road in Townsend. The child was in his father's arms when the tree fell and knocked them over, according to WCVB.

The father had minor injuries, and the toddler was taken to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for treatment, the news station reported.

Wind gusts topped 40 mph on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. A gust of 47 mph was recorded in Springfield, while gusts hit between 35 and 40 mph between Framingham and Worcester, according to the weather service.
