ATHOL, MA — Police found a large African spurred tortoise roaming the streets of Athol Sunday evening. The animal apparently was deemed a "runaway" after getting more than a mile away from its owner in town.
Police got the 40-pound tortoise to come near using some lettuce around Partridgeville Road. Once they got it secure, they returned it to its owner, with help from the New England Aquarium, Massachusetts Environmental Police and and Animal Control Officer.
This isn't the first time we've seen tortoises run away only to return home to the happy arms of their humans. Remember this crazy story: Steve The Missing Tortoise To Be Reunited With Family 3 Years Later?
