LUDLOW, MA — The MSPCA is now caring for two horses that they say had to be dug out of the manure piled in their stalls at a Ludlow home to be rescued. The organization called it “the worst case of horse neglect the MSPCA has ever seen,” and has filed felony animal cruelty charges.

The former owner, Nancy Golec, is now facing four counts of felony animal cruelty. Golec was arraigned in Palmer District Court on Feb. 24.

On Feb. 5 when they were rescued, the horses could not leave their stalls because the manure around them was piled so high, the MSPCA said. It took the organization two hours to dig them out, after which they found sores on their backs.
