Phantom Gourmet Visits Simjang In Worcester
"It's not your Korean grandmother's food."

WORCESTER, MA—While we're reporting that the Phantom Gourmet visited Simjang in Worcester recently, the Phantom feature is unlike most. In it, the "report" comes directly from chef-owner Jared Forman rather than either of the Andelman brothers, hosts of the show.
Forman, who also part-owns Deadhorse Hill in Worcester, runs through the menu and goal behind Simjang, saying "my favorite thing about Asian restaurants is you don't say, 'This is your plate and this is mine. It's like a communal barbecue. We aren't trying to cook your Korean grandmother's food, but we'd love to have her over for dinner."
Simjang is located in the old Buick dealership at 72 Shrewsbury St.

With an remarkably eclectic menu, it ranges from its "famous" Korean fried chicken (double fried in rice flour and corn starch) to dumplings to ribeyes cooked over a wood fire. The restaurant is known for mixing "crazy flavors" into traditional dishes in its funky, comfortable and bright setting lined by a wall of windows and an upstairs with video games.
