Police Pull Woman From Burning Building In Worcester

Two officers ran inside a burning building on Chilmark Street to rescue an elderly woman Saturday morning.

WORCESTER, MA — Two Worcester police officers pulled an elderly woman from a burning building early Saturday morning. Around 1:20 a.m., officers responded to a Chilmark Street home, which they found engulfed in flames, police said.

Police heard people in the rear common hallway screaming for help. Two officers went inside and found two men struggling to assist the woman down the staircase from the second floor. The officers carried the woman to safety, police said.

"I am grateful for the actions of two of our courageous police officers who rushed into a burning building to save a woman's life," City Manager Edward Augustus said in a statement. "This incident is a reminder to all of our citizens of the dangers of policing and another example of how our city is safer because of their bravery and commitment to their duty."
