WEBSTER, MA — Scott Brown, the former Wrentham Selectman, model, U.S. Senator and Donald Trump-appointed ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, is coming back to Massachusetts.

But not to play politics, to play rock and roll.

Brown's band, Scott Brown and the Diplomats, will be the opening act this summer at an Eagles tribute concert at the Indian Ranch entertainment center in Webster. Brown formed the band while living in New Zealand, but the quintet has been reformed stateside with local musicians from Southern New England.

Brown, 61, vaulted onto the national political scene in 2010 when he took Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat in what was perceived as a layup election for Democrat Martha Coakley. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren unseated Brown in 2012.

Brown was appointed the New Zealand ambassador by Trump in 2017. His time as ambassador ended with some controversy around New Zealand's COVID-19 quarantine protocols. But in a phone call Tuesday, Brown highlighted his accomplishments while working for the state department, including assisting New Zealand following the Christchurch massacre that left 49 dead, pushing for the passage of the Kiwi Act — and playing with his band in front of a crowd of 15,000 at an arena in Wellington. He left the post in December.

You can catch Brown and his bandmates on July 17 at Indian Ranch, where they'll open for Dark Desert Eagles. The Diplomats will be playing plenty more shows in the area, including one set for August at the Wrentham town common.
