The precipitation may move in on Thursday morning and last through around 1 a.m. Friday, according to the weather service. Precipitation will likely transition into freezing rain through the Friday morning rush hour commute.

The local weather is part of a larger system that's bringing snow and freezing rain to a large swath of the country from Texas through the Midwest. A blast of arctic air has dropped as far south as the Gulf of Mexico, and has broken records across the upper Midwestern states. International Falls, Minn., set a record of -42 degrees on Feb. 13, and Duluth hit -29.
