'stART on the Street' Showcases Local Music in Worcester

On August 20, the first 'stART on the Stage' will take place at Ralph's Rock Diner in Worcester.

Since its inception in 2002, stART on the Street has hosted dozens of festivals sharing and celebrating art, music, food, and culture. While music has always been a part of the annual September events, this year’s Performance Committee has worked hard to curate such a variety of acts that one day isn’t enough.

Performance Director Gabe Rollins says the group wanted to “bring added attention to the diversity of music featured at stART on the Street.” This idea sparked a new event, and on August 20th the first stART on the Stage will take place at Ralph’s Rock Diner in Worcester.

“stART is more than just food, artists and street performers,” said Performance Committee member Barry Dennis. “We have three stages of the best local and regional music of many genres: Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Folk, World Music and singer/songwriters. stART on the Stage will showcase the diversity of the music that stART has to offer.”

When thinking of venues to host, Rollins noted that “Ralph’s history and tradition as Worcester’s preeminent music venue made it the natural place to have the show.” Deb Beaudry, also of stART’s Performance Committee, said Ralph’s was an easy choice as it is not only Worcester’s longest running rock club, it’s also been voted the best live music venue in Worcester. ‘The list goes on,” Beaudry said, mentioning that every member of stART’s Performance Committee has either booked bands or performed at Ralph’s throughout the years.

Though Rollins says the official lineup is being finalized, confirmed acts include Ariband, a folk act from Worcester; Dark Matter, hip hop from Brockton; and Oberon Rose, a Connecticut-based band who describe themselves as “an eclectic mix of pop, folk psychedelia and blues rock.”.

stART on the Stage begins at 8pm on Saturday, August 20th at Ralph’s. The event is 21+, and tickets will be sold at the door for $7.
