The Top 20 Highest-Paid Worcester Employees In 2020
Again in 2020, Worcester police officers and supervisors dominated the list of highest paid city employees.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police officers across all ranks were among the highest earners in city government in 2020, according to annual list released to the City Council.
City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. topped the list as the city's highest paid employee in 2020, earning close to $280,000 between his salary and benefits. But Augustus was alone on the list of the mostly highly paid employees inside City Hall.
There were 36 city employees who earned more than $200,000 in 2020 — Augustus and Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Maureen Binienda were the only two non-police employees among those 36.

Out of the top 200 earners in the city in 2020, about 160 were police department employees. Those six-figure salaries were boosted by hefty overtime and detail pay. For example, Worcester police Sgt. Anthony Petrone, the No. 4 earner in 2020, earned a base salary of $107,595. He more than doubled that base pay to $236,372 with over $35,000 from overtime, nearly $82,000 in detail pay and over $11,000 in retroactive payments.
The lowest paid employee in 2020 was a crossing guard who netted just $32. About 172 city employees earned less than $1,000 in 2020, and almost all were WPS employees — although the data does not say how long each employee worked in 2020.
