Vax Express Train Back In Worcester On Thursday

WORCESTER, MA — A modified MBTA commuter rail train will roll into Worcester again Thursday offering coronavirus vaccines, grocery store gift cards and entertainment.

The Vax Express trains over the next few days will be arriving at commuter rail stations in cities with low vaccination rates. Thursday's visit will be the second time a Vax Express train has visited Worcester's Union Station.

The train will be parked at Union Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering the Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer vaccines. Children as young as 12 can get vaccinated at the station. Plus, anyone who gets a vaccine will get a $25 grocery store gift card.

As of July 1, about 50 percent of Worcester residents per capita had been fully vaccinated against coronavirus, according to state data. As a whole, about 73 percent of all residents in Massachusetts had been vaccinated as of July 1. The federal government had set a goal of have 70 percent of the U.S. population vaccinated by July 4, although the nation fell short reaching only about 68 percent by Independence Day.
