The Junior League of Worcester (JLW) awarded a local high school senior with a $3,000.00 scholarship. Genesis Daniela Marquez Campos, a senior at Claremont Academy, demonstrated outstanding voluntarism through community services. Campos maintained a weighted 4.29 GPA (she is ranked 5th of 68 seniors) while balancing roles of National Honor Society President, Varsity Basketball Team Captain, as well as President and Co-Found of Worcester Youth Cooperatives (WYC). She is an active member of the Dynamy Youth Academy, the Community Service Club and the Soccer Team. She is a recipient of the National Hispanic Heritage Social Justice Award and the Academic Excellence Awards.

Co-founding a non-profit at such a young age is admirable work. Campos explained, “As the President of WYC, I do weekly homeless outreach to provide essentials to the homeless in my community. What makes this organization so special is that we get to know the homeless in the community and create lasting bonds.”

“Every year we extend this scholarship out to Worcester County Seniors and reading the applications is like a breath of fresh air,” said Lauren Evens, President of the JLW. She continued, “With the pandemic taking away so much from our students, to read these applications and learn about the good that is still going on within our community makes me so happy.”

In the Fall of 2021, Campos plans to attend Worcester State University and double major in Nursing and Biotechnology. She shared, “I want to join the medical field to help and provide support to the homeless population in communities like mine by providing accessible medical examinations and treatments. My main goal is to create a self-maintained house village where homeless individuals could not only get a place to stay, but also a place where they would have resources such as clothing, job interviews, free training, drug rehabilitation support, free medical and dental checks, food, etc...A place where people can build their lives back up again.”
