Dump Truck Crashes Into Utility Pole Closing Route 1A In Wrentham

A stretch of Route 1A in Wrentham is expected to be closed most of the morning as crews restore power after a dump truck his a utility pole.

WRENTHAM, MA — Route 1A northbound in Wrentham was closed for most of Wednesday after a dump truck slammed into a utility pole before dawn Wednesday morning. National Grid crews were on scene attending to wires down at the intersection of Route 1A and Winter Street from early in the morning through the evening commute.

Wrentham police said the dump truck hit the utility pole, snapping it in half, and then got snared in the utility wires. While it was snowing heavily at the time of the accident, police said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined. There were no reported injuries.

Wrentham Police Chief Bill McGrath said Route 1A northbound from Wrentham Center to the intersection with Winter Street would be closed through at least the end of the morning commute during clean up and National Grid work on the scene. While power was restored to the area by mid-morning, the road remained closed through the evening commute as crew removed wires and debris.
