Plainville Man, 21, Charged With Stabbing His Mother To Death

PLAINVILLE, MA — A 21-year-old man charged with stabbing his mother to death in their Plainville home was held without bail. Sean Murphy was charged with the murder of Caryln Murphy, 51, at Wrentham District Court Friday morning.

Police said they found Carlyn Murphy's body in the kitchen of the family's Landau Road home after her husband called 911 around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to court documents. Officers arrested the couple's son, Sean Murphy, at Patriot Place. Murphy, who lived at home with his parents, had a knife on him, police said.

Authorities did not give a motive, but the police report said Sean Murphy wanted his mother "to die quickly."

Authorities said there is no danger to the community.

"While residents of the neighborhood and the town of Plainville may feel shocked by this incident, police do not believe that there is any ongoing threat or danger," a joint statement from Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey and Plainville Police Chief James Alfred said.
