Saxophone Quartet Playing Baroque to Beatles
Saxophone Quartet of master musicians to perform classical, jazz and popular music at the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham.

The Generations Saxophone Quartet will be performing at the Original Congregational Church, Wrentham, 7:30 PM, Friday, Oct. 9. This exciting, innovative, and entertaining group of four master musicians plays a repertoire ranging from Baroque to the Beatles, and everything in between. Using humor and audience interaction, they explain and demonstrate the connection between jazz and classical music. Led by Steve Straus playing soprano sax, the group (left to right in the photo) includes Gail Ferr, baritone sax, Steve Straus, Ray Hebert, tenor sax, and Thomas Van Duyne, alto sax. If you’ve never heard classical music played in Jazz style or a pop song played in classical style, you’re in for a special treat.
Dr. Stephen Straus is a retired dentist. He founded Brookville Dental in Holbrook in 1976 and retired in 2010. As a dentist, he always tried to combine music tailored to the needs of his patients with his dental practice. Now that he is retired from dentistry, he plays throughout the year with the Riverboat Stompers, a popular jazz band (on the Wrentham Common in August), and sometimes with other groups, in addition to this saxophone quartet. When you see the Generations Saxophone Quartet perform, you will get some insight into his wide range of musical interests.
Because of the experience of this group with education, and the desire to expand the audience to younger people, youths 16 and under will be admitted free with an adult.
