Wrentham's Sheena Acosta-Frizzell Named Teacher of the Year
Sheena Marie Acosta-Frizzell named teacher of the year by the United Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The United Regional Chamber of Commerce selected Wrentham’s Sheena Marie Acosta-Frizzell for the Teacher of the Year for 2013.
Acosta-Frizzell, a fifth grade teacher at Roderick Elementary, was awarded a $1,000 check from the Bristol County Savings Bank. She’s been teaching in Wrentham for six years.
“I am completely overwhelmed,” she said. “It was quite an honor to be honest. When I found out I was nominated I was extremely taken aback.”

Wrentham parent Katie Agnello, whose daughter was in her class last year, nominated Acosta-Frizzell.
“She said she was at a banquet and they had mentioned they are accepting nominations and my name came up immediately,” she said. “At that point, I realized what an honor it was just to be nominated.”

Acosta-Frizzell said she loves to teach, and can’t think of doing anything else. She said putting that experience into words is impossible, at least for her.
“I feel as though it’s something that I honestly love to do,” she said. “I look at teaching as who I am. I love working in Wrentham, the community speaks volumes for the types of things I’m able to do in the classroom. The importance of education is stressed so much in this community, it allows me to do my crazy antics. I get the support I need to produce the things I dream up.”
Acosta-Frizzell said it still hasn’t sunk in for her.
“I just in shock, I’m still on cloud nine,” she said.
Wrentham school committee chair Edward Goddard said he and the committee is proud to hear about the award.
“She’s fantastic, one of the best we have in the district,” he said.
Goddard added he feels a personal connection with her, as two of his children have had class with her.
Acosta-Frizzell has a bachelor of science in education and is currently working on a masters’ degree.
She will be issued the award May 23 at The United Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Spotlight on Education Breakfast at Lake Pearl Luciano’s.
