CMU Shooting: 'Don't Make A Villain' Of Accused Teen, Says Sib

James Eric Davis Jr.'s brother, meanwhile, has asked people to pray for his parents – and his little brother.

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The older brother of James Eric Davis Jr. asks that people pray for his parents, James Eric Davis Sr. and Diva Jeneen Davis, who were shot to death on Friday, March 2, in the dorm room of his little brother. He also asked that people "please don’t make a villain of my brother."

Russell Matthew Davis, a doctoral divinity student, posted his remarks to Facebook on Saturday, the day after police spent much of Friday searching for his younger brother. Police say that James Eric Davis Jr. shot his parents to death in his Central Michigan University dorm about 8:40 a.m. Friday. Police found and arrested him just after midnight.

"It’s so surreal, I’m in shock and even in denial," wrote Russell Davis. "It’s a hard pill to swallow, a heavy load to bear. I can’t wrap my mind around this, nor make any sense of this, but three things I want you to know:

1. I LOVE my Mama/Ma/MaDea and my Dad!! I’m going to MISS THEM!!
2. I STILL LOVE MY BROTHER! I want him safe, supported and prayed for just like my sister Alexis Davis and I
3. And... I still believe God!! I’m in pursuit of a doctorate... a doctorate in faith... and THIS is my examination!!"

Police said that the 19-year-old CMU sophomore had been behaving oddly before the incident. He had been taken to a nearby hospital early Friday morning, but was released from the hospital later in the morning. A short time later, according to a police timeline, he fatally shot his parents in his dorm room and then fled.

His father James Eric Davis Sr., was a police officer in Bellwood, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The teen used his father's gun in the attack, police said.

The Davis family is from Plainfield, Illinois. Davis Sr. also had been a longtime member of the Illinois Army National Guard, serving in the Iraq War.

Police have said they the teen to be charged with two counts of murder.
