Gabby Douglas Says She Was Abused By Larry Nassar
In a statement Tuesday, Douglas apologized for a comment she made that implied victim shaming and said she was also abused by Larry Nassar.

Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas said on Tuesday she was abused by former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, following accusations made by her teammates McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman, who have both alleged abuse by the doctor.
Douglas made the accusation in a statement that she posted to her Instagram account. Douglas also apologized for a comment she made in response to a public statement made by Raisman, saying she does not believe in victim-shaming or blaming in any way.
Douglas was referring to a tweet by Raisman in which she had written that women are allowed to feel sexy and comfortable in their own skin. In response to those comments, Douglas quoted the original tweet, adding "however, it is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy. dressing in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd." She later deleted the tweet.

"I didn't view my comments as victim shaming because I know that no matter what you wear, it NEVER gives anyone the right to harass or abuse you," Douglas wrote. "It would be like saying that because of the leotards we wore, it was out fault that we were abused by Larry Nassar. I didn't publicly share my experiences as well as many other things because for years we were conditioned to stay silent and honestly some things were extremely painful. I wholeheartedly support my teammate for coming forward with what happened to them."
Nassar spent three decades working with athletes at USA Gymnastics and is now in a Michigan jail awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography. On Tuesday, The Associated Press reported Nassar will plead guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault and face at least 25 years in prison.

Nassar, 54, is charged with molesting seven girls, all but one of whom were gymnasts, mostly under the guise of treatment at his Lansing-area home and a campus clinic. He's facing similar charges in a neighboring county and lawsuits filed by more than 125 women and girls.
Separately, Nassar is charged with similar crimes in Eaton County, the location of an elite gymnastics club.
