LANSING, MI — In the final week leading to the Nov. 3 election, President Donald Trump started a busy day of campaigning Tuesday with a cold, rain-soaked rally in Michigan. The visit marked his first to the Lansing area since taking office in 2016.

Some of Trump’s supporters waited four hours in the wet, near-freezing temperatures to see him. Meanwhile, Trump told them their enthusiasm shows he has momentum going into the final days before the election.

In his hour-long speech at the Capital Region International Airport, Trump tackled a wide variety of subjects while supporters chanted "lock her up" about Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Detroit News reported.

During the rally, the president described the election as a choice between a "Trump boom" and a "Biden lockdown," referring to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president also told the thousands gathered that “seven days from now we’re going to win the great state of Michigan.”

As America nears Election Day, Trump has maintained a whirlwind schedule through October, despite testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the month. Most polls show Trump trailing Democrat Joe Biden in a state that Trump won narrowly in his 2016 victory.

In the final days before the election, the president is focusing on so-called “blue wall” states that he flipped in 2016: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

While crisscrossing the country, Trump is making the argument that he built a booming economy before the coronavirus pandemic upended it.
