MI Prison, Hospital Among Most Recent Coronavirus Violations
A Michigan prison and a Michigan hospital were cited for coronavirus violations in the state's latest round of citations.
MICHIGAN — A Michigan hospital and a state prison each were fined $6,300 for a series of COVID-19 workplace safety requirements, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported recently.
McLaren Port Huron was fined for what the state deemed as serious violations of COVID-19 workplace safety requirements, including not having a self-screening protocol for working employees, MIOSHA officials said.
The hospital also did not keep everyone on its worksite at least 6 feet from one another and was not requiring face coverings to be worn by employees when they couldn't maintain that 6 feet of separation, according to MIOSHA.

Officials said the citations were issued following an inspection ordered following an employee complaint.

The Gus Harrison Correctional Facility in Adrian received a $6,300 fine for not developing an adequate infectious disease preparedness and response plan and not identifying all close contacts for employees who had received a positive result from a COVID-19 laboratory test, among other violations, the state reported.
The prison was cited following an inspection prompted by a COVID-19 related death, the state said.
MIOSHA on Friday announced it had issued citations at 23 workplaces in the state. Less than 5 percent of businesses investigated have received enforcement actions, state officials said.
