Michigan Reports Over 1,500 New Coronavirus Cases Monday
The state has reported more than 1,500 new coronavirus cases in the past two days.
MICHIGAN — Michigan added 1,500 new cases of the coronavirus in the past two days, state health officials reported Monday.
The state added 1,569 new coronavirus cases Monday, a total that includes all cases reported since Saturday, officials said. The new figures bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan to 589,150. Michigan also added 12 more COVID-19 deaths, bringing the coronavirus death toll in the state to 15,534.
As of Friday, 541,258 people in Michigan have recovered from the coronavirus, state officials said Saturday.

Monday's figures come shortly after the state reported that 23 workplaces around Michigan were being cited for various COVID-19 health violations. Of those workplaces, a Michigan hospital and a Michigan prison were included and fined $6,300, officials said.

Monday also is the day state health officials and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said they were hopeful schools would be offering in-person instruction. Not all schools in Michigan have started offering in-person classes, however. Schools in Detroit announcing Monday that they would return to the classroom on March 8, for example.
