Nassar Sentencing: Victims' Testimony Extends Into 5th Day
The judge has extended the hearing into a second week to allow more than 100 young women and girls to speak.

LANSING, MI – The sentencing hearing for convicted sex offender Dr. Larry Nassar will continue Monday morning. Last week, dozens of young women and girls testified how as a USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University team doctor he molested them during routine exams.
Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina last week extended Nassar's sentencing hearing to a fifth day so that any and all of his victims could speak. Aquilina will sentence him at the conclusion of the hearing.
Last November, Nassar pleaded guilty to molesting girls and women with his hands at his Michigan State University office, his home and a Lansing-area gymnastics club, often while their parents were in the room.

Prosecutors are seeking at least 40 years in prison for Nassar, who has already been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for child pornography crimes.
During the sentencing hearing, which started last Tuesday, gymnasts of all levels testified how he inappropriately touched them during examinations. The victims included Olympic gymnasts Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber, who testified Friday.

"You have not taken gymnastics away from me," Raisman said. "I love this sport, and that love is stronger than the evil that resides in you, in those who enabled you to hurt many people."
Raisman, like several other victims of the Nassar's abuse, also condemned Michigan State President Lou Anna Simon and others for not acting on complaints they made against the doctor.
Many have called on the university to fire Simon, though the board of trustees issued a statement that they support Simon. One trustee, Mitch Lyons, issued a separate statement saying he was breaking from the other trustees and asked that Simon resign as president.
