School Security: Proposal Calls For Mich. To Pay For Hallway Cops

Millions would be earmarked for school counselors in addition to the armed resource officers.

LANSING, MI – The state would provide $120 million in grants to pay for armed police officers and mental health professionals to be stationed at schools across Michigan in an idea being floated by police and education officials, according to a media report. The plan was unveiled Thursday during a meeting in Ingham County. Under the plan, grants totally $50 million would enable school to contract with their county sheriffs or local police for armed officers stationed in the schools, reports The Detroit News. Another $50 million would be earmarked to hire hire counselors in the schools and $20 million would be for schools to pay for security inspections and reviews.
