OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Beware of big mud.

The anticipated soft conditions are likely to be exacerbated by rain and wash-out conditions could occur, especially in hilly areas.

“We are doing everything we can to maintain the gravel roads,” Dennis Kolar, the road commission’s managing director, said in a news release. “However, despite our best efforts, heavy rains combined with already saturated conditions could lead to some unstable roads.”

Rain is expected in Oakland County after midnight Wednesday and during the day on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to possible washouts and soft areas, roads could be very bumpy as result of the weather.

Culverts under driveways to businesses and homes should also be cleared of leaves and debris to assure that storm water will properly flow through ditches and reduce potential for road flooding.

“It’s important for motorists to be on the lookout for water over the road regardless of whether they are driving on a paved or gravel road,” Kolar added.

To report any gravel road issues, call (877) 858-4804 or contact the road commission online.
