Berkley Art, Craft, Fair Trade Gallery & Gift Shop Opens
Vitrine Gallery & Gifts Features Work by Detroit Artists, Fair Trade Traveler Finds and More
Vitrine Gallery & Gifts today announced it has officially opened for business. Located at 2758 Coolidge Highway in Berkley, the shop features prominent local artists, global artisans, and iconic Michigan food products as well as fair trade traveler finds.
The 1,500 sq. ft. shop is also home to owner Susan Rogal’s studio. Rogal is the owner behind ArtWear Detroit, a functional art fashion, accessories and housewares company featuring local art. ArtWear Detroit products will be made in the Vitrine Gallery’s workshop and sold in its store.
“Through our fair trade collections, visiting our new gallery and gift shop is like taking a trip around the world without leaving the city,” said Rogal. “We also celebrate regional artists and promote their work. We support a living wage for a variety of artisans. When you shop here, you’re shopping for good.”

Prominent artists represented include Gary Grimshaw, a graphic artist and Grande Ballroom artist known for his rock poster designs; abstract painter Gilda Snowden; visual artist Charles Alexander and Darcel Deneau, recognized for her paintings of cityscapes.
Education is important to Rogal. Each piece of artwork comes with a biography card that tells the story of the artist and names the piece’s country of origin. A digital display in the shop features artist videos and Detroit live music performances as well.

In addition, the shop serves as the flagship store for Buy The Change products. Buy The Change creates fairly traded accessories and home goods, handmade by women around the world. Products include bracelets, earrings, necklaces, scarves, blankets and throws and more.
Handmade personal care items abound at Vitrine Gallery, too. OM Soap is available in loaves, so soap bars may be cut to desired thickness, bath fizzes, salts and Michigan-made soap dishes. Customers are encouraged to try products in-store at the shop’s wet sink.
And because food is art, Sanders, Detroit Bold and Scotty O’Hotty are just a few of the Michigan food brands available to shoppers. Customers will want to visit Vitrine Gallery to take advantage of frequent sampling sessions. To further celebrate the art of food, Vitrine Gallery and its neighbor, Holy Cannoli, will share an interior door (and aromas) to encourage patrons to visit the locally-owned bakery and vice versa.
Added Rogal,“Vitrine focuses on distinctive artwork, ranging from traditional artwork to handmade food. If you’re looking for that gift that has a deeper meaning, you’ll find it here. We put the “why” in “buy.” Artists and artisans throughout Michigan and around the world are working another day, another hour in their craft because a purchase was made in this gallery.”
