Berkley Hires New Community Development Director
City Seeks New Oversight As Growth Continues

Timothy McLean, 37, began serving as community development director with the city of Berkley this week. Formerly a city manager in Allegan County, McClean’s role in Berkley will be to oversee zoning, building and code enforcement, among other tasks. Berkley hired McLean in part to take on work performed by former city planner Amy Vansen who left that role after 18 years to work for the Michigan Association of Planners.
A Royal Oak native, McClean told the Daily Tribune “I want to meet the needs of residents and make sure they are heard. I’m not always going to give you what you want, but I’m always going to listen.”
