Berkley Offers New Home To Sydney Bogg’s Chocolatiers

Sydney Bogg's Sweet Essentials Carries on 80 Year Chocolate Tradition in Downtown Berkley

Sydney Bogg’s was a premiere name in Detroit confections from 1936, when the company was founded, until 2002 when the company faintly closed its doors for the last time. But it didn’t really close forever - just three years later, two of the company’s former employees started a new tradition, opening Sydney Bogg’s Sweet Essentials in Berkley.

Debbie Schlicker, her husband, Gary and Debbie’s sister, Lisa Peasley, got back into the confectionary game when Bogg’s customers tracked them down and asked them to make candy using the old Bogg’s recipes. When production exceeded a home kitchen’s capacity, they opened a shop at 3233 West 12 Mile Road in Berkley and today are in the midst of a very busy holiday season.

The Detroit Free Press wrote a detailed history of Sydney Bogg’s and of its second life in Berkley. Read full coverage of this story in the Detroit Free Press.
