Berkley Schools Closed Today, Some Childcare Available

Last night, the Berkley School District announced that classes would be canceled today. Many schools across the area made their own closing announcements late yesterday as a response to the deep snow and freezing temperatures. With temperatures in the 20s and dropping to the low teens in the evenings, Metro Detroit remains in the grip of freezing winter weather and deep accumulations of snow from yesterday’s storms.

The district announced last night that school was canceled for today, Thursday Dec 14: “The Berkley School District will be closed Thursday, December 14, 2017.” The district also wanted to let parents with children in Berkley’s Child Care program that Avery school-year programs will be closed, but that “Tyndall year-round programs will be open as usual at 7 am. Staff should report.”

For parents who need a place to leave children today, the district says “Kids' Zone Latchkey will be available for drop in services at Tyndall for a fee for any student already registered with Kids' Zone.”

With temperatures warming slightly, and snow not in the forecast again until this weekend, it seems likely that school will resume tomorrow. Any further delays or cancelations will be announced by the district on its website, in addition to being relayed to dozens of local media outlets.
