Berkley Sports Wrap: Baseball, Girls Soccer Undefeated; Boys Golf Beats Harrison

The Berkley Bears dominated opponents in baseball and girls soccer this past week as both teams remained undefeated as of Friday night, while the boys golf team squeaked by Farmington Harrison.

FRIDAY

Soccer: Berkley over Waterford Mott, 3-1

 stayed undefeated Friday with a 3-1 win at home over Waterford Mott.

Karsyn Baker scored twice and the Bears leading scorer Stephanie Miller added another. Julie Shields had four saves in the win.

Berkley improved to 7-0-2 on the season.

WEDNESDAY

Boys golf: Berkley over Harrison, 181-171

Berkley squeaked by Farmington Harrison at the Detroit Golf Club on Wednesday, 181-171.

At the par 34 course, a strong team effort propelled the Bears to a win. Jimmy Demery and Eric Israel each shot a 42, Curtis Carne shot a 43 and Nolan Derington shot a 44.

The Hawks’ Kyle Cuscarelly shot the top score of the meet with a six-over par (40), but it wasn’t enough to overcome Berkley’s balanced effort. For Harrison, Curtis Cuscarelly shot a 46, Eric Chappell had a 47 and Trevor Kubitskey 48.

Baseball: Berkley over Southfield Lathrup, 15-1

Berkley High School continues to look like the team to beat in the Oakland Activities Association Gold. It won 15-1 in five innings Wednesday over Southfield Lathrup to go to 6-0 in the division and 9-0 overall.

On the mound, Nick Bauer gave up a run in five innings. He only allowed four hits and struck out eight.

 went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Taylor Morrissey went 2-for-4 with a single and a double for two RBIs.

LAST WEEKEND

Baseball: Berkley over Redford Union 11-1 and 7-2

The Berkley High School baseball team stayed hot last weekend with a doubleheader sweep over Redford Union at home on Saturday, 11-1 and 7-2.

In game one, Tyler Tollefson only allowed one run over four innings. He struck out six and walked five batters.

Sean Calender was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a home run. Joey Leider was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored four times. Ian Kobernick was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.

The second game was closer, but the Bears still pulled out a 7-2 win. Riley Klein struck out eight batters in six innings. He gave up two runs (one earned).

Leider and Kobernick picked up where they left off in the first game at the plate. Leider was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Kobernick knocked in a run and was 2-for-3. Nick Bauer was 3-for-4 in the second game with four RBIs.
