Farmington Hills Man Arraigned in Fatal Punch

Dante Manley-Ernest Nederveld is accused of causing the death of a man who died weeks after he was punched.

A 32-year-old Farmington Hills man was arraigned Tuesday on involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from the death of a man he allegedly punched during an Aug. 9 fight at a mobile home park.

Charges against Dante Manley-Ernest Nederveld, originally charged with aggravated assault and other charges, were upgraded to the homicide charges after the victim, Matthew Lee Wegyn, 52, died on Sept. 3.

Police responded to the fight at the Flamingo Mobile Home Park, 22600 Middlebelt Road, at 1:05 a.m. On Aug. i. While police were interviewing the victims and others at the scene, Nederveld appeared from behind and allegedly Wegyn in the face once, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the pavement, police said.

Nederveld was arrested on assault charges, and Wegyn was treated at the scene by the Farmington Hills Fire Department and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Nederveld was arraigned on the amended warrant before 47th District Judge James Brady, who continued his bond at $75,000 with a GPS tether. Nederveld’s next court appearance is a pre-exam conference at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 25.

If convicted, Nederveld faces up to 15 years in prison and $7,500 fine.
