Men's Club Will Auction South Africa Trip, Tigers' Box Seats

The 35th Annual Huntington Woods Men's Club Auction has an array of luxury prizes, from box seats for the Tigers to surf and turf for 26.

HUNTINGTON WOODS, MI – The Huntington Woods Men’s Club will host its 35th annual Service Auction March 24. Pre-registration and a $25 ticket get you access to a night of live and silent auctions of an array of luxurious experiences, items and services. Some items include a lobster-and-steak cookout for 26, a two-night stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, a full bathroom remodel, a vacation to South Africa, a Norman Rockwell seriolithograph and a luxury box experience with the Detroit Tigers. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Gillham Recreation Center, 26325 Scotia, Huntington Woods.

Founded in 1974, The Huntington Woods Mens' Club has over 125 members and has raised over $2,000,000 for the city for special events and projects. This year’s auction proceeds will help Huntington Woods buy and install an emergency generator for a public building. According to the Men’s Club, the cold winter of 2017 demonstrated a need for generator power in at least one large city building.

“The City was able to open the Gillham Recreation Center as a warming center to assist those residents who were unable to stay in their homes, but this was only possible because the Rec Center had power,” the club explained. “Had the power outage been more severe, the City would not have had the ability to house residents temporarily in a warm, safe space.”

The Men’s Club says that the building that receives the donated generator will serve as a warming and cooling station in bad weather, and that the building will also become an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the city.

“Having a proper EOC for the city would place Huntington Woods as a leader among the local communities when it comes to disaster and emergency response, and give our first responders the resources to assist the residents of our City in the event of an emergency,” the Men’s Club said.
