Berkley to Consider Headlee Override Proposal

City Council meets tonight on city fees, committee appointments and more.

The Berkley City Council meets today at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

It's the last item on tonight's agenda, but probably the most important: a Headlee Amendment property tax override proposal to put before voters on Aug. 7.

City officials will discuss a plan to obtain from residents a Headlee override tax vote to fund all essential city services and those that are not considered essential, but will be provided.

Of particular concern to Berkley are diminished revenue from property taxes and state revenue-sharing funds, as well as rising pension costs.

"Headlee and Proposal A will limit growth of property taxes, even if values skyrocket," Plante & Moran audit partner Leslie Pulver .
