Out-of-Compliance Sex Offenders Located in Regional Sweep

Nearly two-dozen warrants were authorized in Oakland and Macomb counties after Michigan State Police-led sweep.

Michigan State Police said Tuesday that authorities located 26 non-compliant sex offenders in a sweep of Oakland and Macomb counties last week.

Investigators had previously checked the residences of 414 registered sex offenders in both counties to verify the offenders were living at their reported addresses, according to a news release.

Registered sex offenders are required to report a change of address within three business days when they move or vacate a residence. Offenders who fail to report an address change can face a four-year felony conviction.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry Unit, Metro Post and Second District Fugitive Team joined forces with the United States Marshals Service, Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit, Michigan Department of Corrections Macomb Circuit Court Probation, Detroit Police Department, Sterling Heights Police Department and Warren Police Department for the collaborative enforcement effort.

The compliance checks resulted in 23 warrants being authorized by prosecutors in Macomb and Oakland counties. Investigators will continue to work to apprehend the remaining three offenders.
