Run/Walk BOOM!!! Fundraiser Beats Its Personal Best

The 1-mile and 5K races on June 29 brought in nearly $14,000, compared to approximately $9,000 last year, to support Huntington Woods' annual fireworks display.

The second annual Run/Walk BOOM!!! fireworks fundraiser in Huntington Woods beat last year's fundraising and participation totals, according to organizers.

The 1-mile and 5K races on June 29, brought in $13,466, compared to approximately $9,000 last year, and attracted 429 participants, compared to 419 in 2012, event committee member Alex Cooper said.

The $13,466 came from sponsorships, participant registrations and donations, he said.

Thirty-five volunteers, including members from the Motor City Striders and Royal Oak Area Runners, and 28 sponsors, including presenting sponsor Flagstar Bank, helped to make the event a success, Cooper said.

The Huntington Woods Men's Club will pay the $536 balance of the $14,000 fireworks contract the city awarded to Colonial Fireworks Co. of Clayton, MI, he added.

"On behalf of the Run/Walk BOOM!!! planning committee and the thousands of fireworks watchers, we extend a big thank you to all the folks who participated or contributed to this year’s event," Cooper said.
