
The City of Berkley Parks and Recreation and Placement Tennis are produce to offer a summer tennis program for the residents of Berkley and surrounding communities. Kristen Harrison USPTA, USPTR, Certified Professional and her staff manage the tennis program.

10 and Under Tennis: Is designed to enable kids to learn, rally, play, and compete right from the
start. Tailoring equipment and courts to a child’s size makes the game more accessible and FUN.
Kids will see their own immediate progress and success, making them more enthusiastic, developing confidence about continuing to play and improve. 10-under methods will be used in all
classes listed except Tournament Training.

Pee Wee - Ages 4-5: Play will be on a 36’ court. Introduces tennis in a fun and exciting way. Basic
FUNdamentals will be taught. Emphasis on developing moving and balancing motor skills.

Beginner - Ages 6-10: Play will be on a 36’ court. Designed for the student with little or no prior tennis experience. Development on movement, balance, coordination and motor skills. Forehand, backhand, volley and serve will be introduced.

Junior Development - Ages 7-12: Children will make the transition from a 36’ court to a 60’ court. Some skills will be repeated from previous levels, with the addition of learning swing rhythms and work on serve progressions along with return of serve.

Junior Excellence - Ages 9-15: For the student who has developed the skills necessary for match playand is interested in playing on a school team, and/ or in USTA tournaments. Advanced stroke
production, footwork and introduced to strategies for successful competitive play.

Teen Beginner - Ages 11-15: Designed for the student with little or no prior tennis experience. Development on movement, balance, coordination and motor skills. Forehand, backhand, volley and serve will be introduced.

Tournament Training: Ages: 10-18 ,
For the student who plays on a middle school or high school junior varsity or varsity team and /or inUSTA tournaments. Cooperative and competitive games will be played, footwork, conditioning, mentaltoughness, singles and doubles strategy as well as developing the player’s game will be part of eachsession. Students are encouraged to participate in tournaments during the session.

JUNIOR MATCH PLAY OPPORTUNITIES
Junior In-House MatchPlay: Ages 10-18: For those who have match play experience and are looking for an opportunity to put their skills to the test weekly. Each week you will be partner with a different partner oropponent. Awards will be given to league winner and runner up.
Friday 11:00-12:00 p.m., June 19-August 21. $10 per week
