4th of July Weather Forecast for Detroit, the Rest of the Country

Happy birthday, America! Michigan looks to have some of the best weather in the country to celebrate Independence Day.


If you’re heading to the beach to celebrate the 4th of July — or no matter what you’re doing to celebrate America’s Independence Day — the sun and weather gods will be smiling on Michigan.

There’s a chance of needed rain in the forecast overnight and into Friday, but once the three-day holiday weekend officially kicks in, get ready for warm, sunny days and pleasant days.

The National Weather Service says there’s a slight chance of severe weather late Thursday in several southeast Michigan counties, including Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Livingston, Genesee and Washtenaw.

Thursday: High near 83, light west-southwest wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Thursday night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m., increasing clouds, with a low around 62; south-southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m.; partly sunny, with a high near 80; west-southwest wind 7 to 11 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon, perhaps gusting as high as 21 mph. Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57; north-northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light northwest wind after midnight, gusting up to 18 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 80; northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 82. Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Independence Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.
