$60M Developments on Tap for Birmingham

Southfield developer received preliminary approval for one project and may become involved in a second.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – A Southfield developer has received preliminary approval for Brookside Terrace, a mixed-use development on North Old Woodward that includes 29 residential units, retail shops and two floors of underground payment.

Christopher Longe, a project architect for the Alden Development Group, told The Birmingham Eccentric the company may also work on a five-story building proposed for 34965 Woodward, where Peabody’s restaurant is located.

That project would also feature retail and residential components, as well as office space and underground parking. Both contribute to to the streetscape and the walkability of the downtown, he said, and “both will feature high quality materials and details that engage passersby at street level.”

The Brookside project, adjacent to Booth Park, would offer spectacular views of the Rouge River, and the Peabody project would “fill-in the missing tooth between the Greenleaf and Balmoral buildings, completing the block,” Longe said.

Each project requires an investment of about $30 million, the architect said.
