Birmingham Police Disclose Reason for Lockdown of Schools
Schools were closed "due to an active investigation of a police situation n the area," school district said.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – The brief lockdown of three elementary schools Tuesday was prompted by the robbery of a real estate agent in the basement of a home by a masked intruder, Birmingham police said.
The woman told Birmingham police that she got a call from someone who wanted to see a home at 1750 Birmingham Boulevard, according to a report by WDIV-TV. While she was in the basement taking photos, the masked intruder entered he home demanded her personal property.

Three elementary schools in Birmingham were briefly put on lockdown Tuesday after a real estate agent was robbed by a masked person in the basement of a home, police said.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Birmingham police at (248) 530-1870.

The lockdown at three Birmingham elementary schools has ended, and the situation with local police has ended, the school district said in an email to parents.
The Pierce, Greenfield and Beverly elementary schools will be dismissing as usual, according to the email.

Birmingham Public Schools sent the following email to parents Tuesday about 1:15 p.m.:
"We wanted to inform you that Pierce, Greenfield, and Beverly elementary schools are currently on a perimeter lockdown on a precautionary basis due to an active investigation of a police situation in the area. We will send another notification when we have more information from the police."
