Birmingham Police Chief Pulls Man From Sinking Car

When a Bay City man's vehicle went into a lake off I-75, Birmingham Police Chief Mark Clemence sprung into action and helped save his life.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — Police Chief Mark Clemence is a hero. On the way to a golf outing Saturday morning, Birmingham’s top officer rescued a Bay City man by pulling him out of his sinking car. The chief saw the man drive across several lanes of I-75 into a lake and took quick action, according to a WXYZ-TV report.

"As I stood there I could see bubbles starting to come up around the car and I knew right then and there that car was going to sink in that muck," Clemence told 7 Action News. "We needed to get that guy out."
The driver, who was from Bay City, suffered some head trauma but is said to be doing okay, according to Clemence.
