Birmingham Police Searching For Jewelry Thief
Two Birmingham jewelry stores were robbed within a week. Police believe the same suspect is responsible.
BIRMINGHAM, MI — A thief has stolen more than $10,000 from two Birmingham jewelry stores in the the last week. Birmingham Police are investigating the thefts, which they say occurred at Merwins Antiques
Gallery and Legacy Jewelry. Both shops are on N. Old Woodward Avenue.
“He was polite and he seemed pretty knowledgeable,” shop owner Ron Winter said Friday. “I had just gotten back from a show and was putting away boxes, and he kept asking questions and moving around the store.”
“Winter said at one point the suspect went to his car and brought back a pair of jade earrings that he wanted appraised. Looking back, Winter said it’s more than likely the suspect left the store to stash the stolen goods - and then came back for more.”
