Many Birmingham Traditions Free on Small Business Saturday

Free and valet parking, carriage rides, breakfast treats, strolling entertainment and other special touches planned Saturday, Nov. 28.

Shoppers who skip the big-box stores and malls on Saturday, Nov.28, will get the red-carpet treatment in the Birmingham Shopping District, where local merchants are planning special incentives and activities for Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and is dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.

Birmingham’s downtown shoppers will enjoy the following:

  • From 10-11:30 a.m., snack bars, hot cocoa and coffee and other Small Business Saturday giveaways will be available at the Fuel Up Before You Shop Small Tent located on corner of Maple and Henrietta.
  • Parking will be free at meters and parking structures in downtown Birmingham.
  • Free valet parking will be available at Maple and Henrietta (near Roots) and Mapleand N. Old Woodward (near Panera Bread).
  • Complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered from noon-4 p.m.
  • The Santa House in Shain Park will be open from noon-3:30 p.m. Kis can have their picture taken with Santa while they give them their lists.
  • A warming station with complimentary treats and hot chocolate will be locted near the Santa House, sponsored by Lincoln of Troy
  • Strolling Entertainment from noon-4 p.m. includes Bill the Magician, Rudolph, the Velvet caroling trio and K-Rock “Kids that Rock.”
