Fire Chief John Connaughton, who explained the need for the reinforcing I-beams, said there’s no “question this station has outlived its life expectancy in terms of brick and mortar.”

The 5,100-square-foot single-story building will be replaced with a two-story facility with almost double the overall square footage.
