Birmingham Upgrades Remaining Parking Structures
The upgrades will be for N.Old Woodward, Peabody Street, Pierce Street and Park Street structures and will replicate Chester St. parking.

From The City Of Birmingham: Following the successful implementation of enhanced traffic control equipment at the Chester Street Parking Structure, the City of Birmingham will soon offer the same upgrades at the City’s remaining four parking structures: North Old Woodward, Peabody Street, Pierce Street and Park Street.
“The new traffic control equipment offers three main advantages: reliability, speed and ease of use. This system is more reliable and it is faster and easier for those coming into and out of the structures,” said SP+ Senior Manager, Jay O’Dell.
The system requires drivers to use a credit/debit card or IN Card (a card that can be loaded with various amounts) to pay for parking. IN Cards are available at the SP+ Parking Office at the Chester Street Parking Structure and will soon be available at City Hall. The new system does not accept cash and it does not require the use of a ticket, which prevents backups from occurring when a driver is stopped at the exit and unable to locate their ticket. Monthly permit holders simply hold up their new access cards to a scanner at the entrance and exit. Previous access cards will be disabled.

The new equipment will be in place at the North Old Woodward Parking Structure during the second week in April.
The remaining structures will receive the upgrades within the next two months. Following implementation, staff members will be posted at each entrance and exit to ensure a smooth transition.

“Due to the success of the enhancements at the Chester Street Parking Structure, we’re eager to roll out this new equipment at the remaining structures,” said Birmingham City Manager, Joe Valentine. “We’re pleased to provide a more convenient and efficient parking experience in Birmingham.”
In addition to these enhancements, brand new signs will be added this summer that displays the number of spots available at the structures. Those driving by the structures will easily see how many spaces are open and eventually the information will be displayed on the homepage of the City's website at www.bhamgov.org.
