Birmingham's Townsend Hotel Named Best Hotel In Michigan

BIRMINGHAM, MI — The best hotel in Michigan has been named and it's in Oakland County's backyard. Cue up the drum roll and pack your bags, because the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham received the honor of Michigan's best hotel, according to a new survey by the high-end travel site Travel + Leisure.

For Travel and Leisure's 'World's Best Awards,' readers were asked to designate the best hotel in every state across America. Hotels were ranked on criteria including value, location, service, amenities and attention to detail.

So what catapulted the Townsend Hotel to Michigan's number one spot? One reader glowingly summed up the Townsend as “A five-star hotel on the outskirts of Detroit that offers the best service, accommodations, restaurant, and surroundings in Michigan.” And another reader was a tad more to the point, “the best place to stay in Michigan, period!”

Steven Kalczynski, the Managing Director of the Townsend Hotel, told Patch "We were very, very pleased finding out we were selected. Even more importantly, it's based on reader's polls and guests who have stayed with us." Kalczynski attributes the Townsend's success to unparalleled service, "We're guided by something called The Townsend Basics and we deliver unprecedented, thoughtful, and personal service. Our service is so memorable that guests ask for our employees by name. We have about 205 employees at the hotel and more than half have been here for 10 to 15 years or longer, so they're more than experts in the field."

Kalczynski also shared the Townsend has undergone sweeping renovations, sharing "In the last couple of years we've been going through a major rejuvenation of the property. We've gone through several layers of renovations to give us a more modern, luxury feel. And with the rejuvenation of Detroit, it's perfect timing being a Metro Detroit luxury hotel."
