Dogs Maul Birmingham Cat

The attack was the second off-leash incident involving dogs in Birmingham in a month.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — A Birmingham woman’s cat was killed by two off-leash dogs last month. The incident happened in the 500 block of Bird Avenue on May 22 when police believe a Rhodesian ridgeback and a boxer mix mauled the cat to death.

The dogs’ owner informed the woman of the incident and she then reported it to police. Birmingham Police Cmdr. Scott Grewe said the dog owner was issued tickets for no restraints, harboring a vicious dog and for failing to properly license the two animals, the Birmingham Eccentric reported. The two dogs were quarantined, but not euthanized.

Grewe told the newspaper that the dogs were returned to the owner on the condition that he enroll them in training classes. The prosecutor’s office also wanted the dogs evaluated by a specialist to determine their temperament, the Eccentric reported.
