Luxury Condos for the Well-Heeled Coming to Birmingham

These are serious "wow" houses: Properties sell for up to $3.8 million in The Forefront development in downtown Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Condominiums in a ritzy residential development in downtown Birmingham are selling for $1.7 to $3.8 million as the real estate market in downtown Birmingham continues on the uptick.

Developer Joey Jonna, president of Jonna Luxury Homes, said a new development at 400 S. Old Woodward, features 7,700-square foot of retail space on the ground floor and 10 condos, ranging from 2,500 to 5,200 square feet, on the second and third floors.

“They’re basically going to be like $2 million luxury homes with a few basic common spaces,” Jonna told The Birmingham Eccentric. “You don’t have any kind of cookie-cutter element ... they can be customized to the way people want to live.”

The million-plus-dollar residences feature floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of downtown, sound-proofed walls and floors, and private elevators, vestibules and balconies, among other amenities.

Buyers can customize their properties with choices of cabinetry, fireplaces, appliances, trim and tile, and other finishing touches.

Several more upscale developments are in the works in downtown Birmingham, where a 26,000 square foot parcel recently sold for $7 million — about $11.6 million an acre.
