More Than 450 Homes Without Power Wednesday Morning

Residents at more than 450 Birmingham homes are waking up Wednesday morning without power, according to the latest reports from DTE.

According to the DTE Outage Map, 470 DTE Energy customers are without power early Wednesday morning in Birmingham, most of which live in the city's northwest corner.

Though the cause is listed as simply "area outage," the National Weather Service is warning residents that the heavy snow that fell overnight could weigh down power lines and cause widespread power outages.

According to residents posting on the Birmingham Patch Facebook page Tuesday night, downed power lines in Birmingham's Rail District closed South Eton Road between Maple and Hazel for several hours last night while firefighters cleaned up the scene. Around 30 homes, including the apartments at the corner of Maple and Eton, lost power.

The two current outages are clustered in the Rail District and in the Quarton Lakes neighborhood on the Bloomfield Township border. Around 88 homes and business are without power in the Rail District, though most of the outages are clustered between Hazel and Lincoln, on the east side of Eton.

Meanwhile, the largest outage is on the Bloomfield Township border, where 454 total homes are without power between Covington and the Chesterfield area to the east, and between Maple and Redding to the north.

Customers lost power around 8 p.m. in the Rail District, DTE says, while the power went out on the northeast side of town around 10 p.m. last night.

The estimated restoration time for the Rail District outage is between 9:30-11:30 p.m. tonight, DTE says. No restoration times are given for the other outage.

Meanwhile, there are a dozen pockets of individual outages scattered throughout the city Wednesday morning, with a variety of restoration times.

Birmingham is currently under a winter weather advisory until noon today, with more snowfall in the forecast. The high Wednesday will be 36 degrees. Last night's snowfall, however, did close Birmingham Public Schools Wednesday, as well as several area private schools.

Residents are also advised to get their cars off the street: the Birmingham Department of Public Services issued a snow emergency Tuesday night for residential streets.
